MEDICINE HAT, AB – It wasn’t the return the Snake Pit the Medicine Hat College Rattlers basketball teams hoped for on Friday.

The women’s and men’s squads fell to the SAIT Trojans in their home openers, their first regular season games at MHC since early 2020.

The women’s team dropped a 57-43 decision while the men fell 88-82 in a game that came down to the wire. Both games were played in front of a packed house.

The Rattlers volleyball teams each fared better in their home-and-home series with SAIT.

The men’s team nabbed a three sets to one win on home court Saturday following a three sets to zero loss to the Trojans in Calgary the night before.

It was the reverse for the women’s team, as they won three sets to one in Calgary on Friday before losing in three sets to SAIT back home on Saturday.

This was a milestone weekend for a new team at Medicine Hat College, the Rattlers women’s hockey team.

The team travelled north for their first-ever exhibition game. The Rattlers were on the losing end against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens, falling 8-0.

Late last week two Rattlers golfers finished in the top 10 at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Golf National Championship in Ontario.

Colby Friedrich placed fifth at 13-over, and Chase Broderson tied for eighth at 17-over. The pair were named CCAA All Canadians at the weekend banquet.

The Rattlers soccer teams were to play on Saturday but a large dump of snow forced the cancellation of the games.
