MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Tigers were busy on the phone this week making trades with the Everett Silvertips and Portland Winterhawks.

On Oct. 18 the Tabbies traded forward Oren Shtrom, a 2023 eighth-round pick and 2024 ninth-round pick to Everett for goaltender Evan May and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

May had his first practice with the team Thursday morning and says he’s excited to be with the team.

“The first time I walked in I’m like ‘holy this is the room.’ So it’s just an honour to be a Tiger, and the facility here is great, super exciting.”

May has a 3.69 goals against average and .875 save percentage in the Western Hockey League.

May spent time this year in the BCHL with the Cowichan Valley Capitals compiling a record of 1-12-3, a 4.31 average and .884 save percentage.

Shtrom joined the Tigers in the 2020-21 season. He played 89 games with the Tigers and put up 37 points.

That exchange was followed the next morning when the Tigers sent a 2023 eighth-round pick to Portland for defenceman Kurtis Smythe.

The 20-year-old Smythe has played for the Winterhawks since the 2019-20 season. In 121 games Smythe racked up 31 points.

He will join the team as soon as Friday. Whether he will be in the lineup for either game this weekend is still to be determined.
