Professional conduct hearing for Medicine Hat doctor underway

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A professional conduct hearing for a Medicine Hat doctor is currently underway.

Dr. Ian Gebhardt is accused of acting inappropriately towards a patient in June of 2017. Gebhardt did go on trial for sexual assault but that charge was stayed in 2018.

He is currently facing child sex assault charges in Ontario dating back to the 1980s.

Gebhardt reopened his practice earlier this year. A regulated health professional was required to chaperone any in-person or online visits. Gebhardt was also restricted from treating anyone under the age of 16.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons website says he is currently not accepting new patients.
