MEDICINE HAT, AB – NDP candidate Gwendoline Dirk held a media conference today accompanied by Municipal Affairs Critic Joe Ceci to announce the NDP’s plan to make life more affordable for the Senior population if she were to be elected.

She outlined steps that need to be taken, like caps on car insurance and utility bills. Dirk also mentioned the youth population, saying they are the driving force to make this all happen.

“One of the things that we are really working on is to try to attract and keep young people in our province, because it does tie into the seniors as we need a robust work force to keep our economy going, and if we are losing young people to other provinces for other opportunities then we are losing a valuable resource.”

Ceci handled many of the questions during the availability, saying that he and the NDP recognize senior’s concerns with their ability to afford to live, not only within the constituency, but the province as a whole.

“I certainly understand there’s a higher seniors population here, and rightly they should be concerned with many of the current policies of the UCP because it is making life tremendously unaffordable,” Ceci says. “It’s not only Medicine Hat’s seniors, we need to be concerned about seniors all around the province.”

Dirk is running against Alberta Party Leader Barry Morishita, the Independence party’s Bob Blayone, and Premier Danielle Smith in the Nov. 8 byelection.
