Oct 18, 2022 | 2:50 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Tomas Mrsic is the latest Medicine Hat Tiger that will don the red and white of Team Canada.

On Tuesday, the 16-year-old was named to Team Canada’s U17 team and will play for Team Canada Red at the upcoming U17 Championships in Langley, B.C. later this month.

“I got the call during our US Division road trip when we were in Everett last week,” Mrsic told tigershockey.com. “It’s a dream come true to play for Team Canada, as a kid watching the World Juniors I’ve always had aspirations to play in that tournament, the U17s is a step in that direction and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

In five games so far this season Mrsic has one goal and two assists. He notched one goal in 10 games for the Tigers last season.

He’ll leave for the U17s on Oct. 31 and return to the Tigers on Nov. 13.

Goalie incoming

The Tigers made a deal on Tuesday, acquiring 2004-born goaltender Evan May from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for 2004-born forward Oren Shtrom.

May, 18, has played two games with the Silvertips and sports a record of 0-0-1 with an .875 save percentage and a 3.69 GAA. The 18-year-old Shtrom has four assists in seven games with the Tabbies this season. Over parts of three seasons with the Tigers, Shtrom tallied 14 goals and 23 assists.

The Tigers are back home after going 2-2-1 on their U.S. road trip. They host the Red Deer Rebels on Friday night at Co-op Place and the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday.

Tickets are available and you can hear the game on Wild 94.5 with the voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
