MEDICINE HAT, AB – With the Brooks-Medicine Hat byelection now officially announced the candidates are campaigning for your vote.

The NDP’s Gwendoline Dirk was doing exactly that this past weekend in both Brooks and Medicine Hat. It was the afternoon hours on Saturday that she spent knocking on doors in Brooks, then made her way back to the Hat for the annual Medicine Hat Police Association ball. Dirk is a member of the police commission.

During her time out and about Dirk says she heard some positive feedback already and seems to have good recognition in each community.

“I’ve been in Medicine Hat you know for you know many years now,” she says. “So being so involved with so many different organizations, and raising my son, as well since I’ve been retired I’ve been involved in so many community organizations I know lots of people, and it’s wonderful. They’re all my neighbours.”

Dirk also mentioned issues she heard from people that she plans to address if she’s elected like the family doctor shortage and affordability.

Dirk is running against UCP Leader Danielle Smith and Alberta Party Leader Barry Morishita in the upcoming byelection. Voters in Brooks-Medicine Hat will go to the polls on Nov. 8.
