Provincial government aiming to make it easier to choose Alberta

Alberta’s government says it is helping newcomers find a home and succeed in the province with a new webpage that supports immigrants with information and resources in 15 different languages.

Provincial officials say if someone is thinking about coming to Alberta, the Opportunity Alberta website and guide is now available to help them decide. Its expected these translated resources will help newcomers find the information they need, whether they are coming to start a business, join a school, or find work.

“Alberta’s government is committed to finding practical ways to remove barriers to the successful integration of immigrants to our province,” says Premier Jason Kenney. “Today’s update is an important step to ensure Alberta remains a place of opportunity for everyone to put their business ideas to work, find meaningful employment and raise a family.”

As part of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Strategy, government officials say the website and guide will help Alberta attract and support job-creating entrepreneurs and skilled graduates. Newcomers are described as an important part of Alberta’s economic future and supporting skilled workers with translated information is said to be a critical step.

“We are committed to ensuring all Albertans have access to information, resources, services and opportunities to benefit from all that our province has to offer,” adds Kaycee Madu, Minister of Labour and Immigration

“In doing so, new Albertans can continue to contribute their hard work, skills and entrepreneurial drive to local economies and communities and support our province now and in the future.”

Using the guide in their preferred language, people can learn more about initiatives like the government’s Alberta Advantage Immigration Program. There are said to be many paths for the government to nominate people for permanent residency through streams focused on areas such as rural renewal, foreign graduates and temporary foreign workers.

The government says Alberta’s Fairness for Newcomers Action Plan promised to remove barriers so newcomers can bring their entrepreneurial drive and skills to Alberta. This is said to be one of the many changes made to remove these barriers. As the province’s population continues to grow and become more diverse, Alberta’s government says it is committed to providing information and resources to support opportunities for all Albertans.
