Tigers suffer 5-2 loss to the Winnipeg Ice

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Tigers took on the Winnipeg Ice for the their 2nd home game of the season tonight.

The game started off with a bang in the first period when Oasiz Wiesblatt grabbed his 5th goal of the season for the Tigers, fifteen seconds into the game.

Shortly after The Ice answered with a goal of their own coming off the stick of Conor Geekie, 1:23 into the first on the powerplay. The game was all knotted up after the period following a goal from both sides. First from Tyler Mackenzie of the Tigers , then Conor Geekie grabbed his second of the night for the Ice.

In the 2nd period it was Winnipeg who took control grasping a 3-2 lead following the goal from Skyler Bruce at 12:21 of the period. As well in this period the Tigers starting goaltender Beckett Langkow was struck in the head region with the heel of a skate.

Langkow would stay in the game and said after “I got lucky, it just caught me in the jaw of my mask. So kind of just jammed my jaw up a bit, not too bad”

In the third period the Ice extended their lead making it 4-2 at 3:07 of the period which was the hat-trick completing goal for Conor Geekie. Towards the final moments Winnipeg found the insurance empty-netter that was sent from Jaren Brinson in his own zone.

Following the game Head Coach Willie Desjardins spoke about the back-to-back losses saying “We gotta be better shift after shift there’s no shortcuts. We have to improve our habits, and with young guys it’s gonna take a while sometimes. It’s frustrating for sure, but we gotta find a way to win. We gotta play those young guys, and they gotta develop”

The Tigers will head out on their U.S. road trip Wednesday, and return for their next home game at Co-Op Place on October 21st when they take on the Red Deer Rebels.
