Women’s shelter to fully launch new 24/7 online chat service

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society held its annual general meeting Thursday highlighting some of its recent successes, as well as the direction they are headed in the next year.

Part of the announcements was the 24/7 online chat they are fully introducing as of Nov. 1. The goal of the system is to provide people another option to reach out for help.

The online chat was soft tested over the summer and the society received great reviews on the system leading to the decision to make it a permanent feature

Executive director Natasha Carvalho says it’s important to give people different options to find help. “It’s gone really really well, we’ve gotten a lot of great feedback that people have found it to be an even easier way to communicate with us then having to pick up the phone, that can be a bit daunting.”

Outside of the online chat, Carvalho notes the society plans on bringing back some events they have partaken in prior to the pandemic such as their gala scheduled for March.

The gala serves as their main fundraising event and educational opportunity for them to explain the different services they offer to the community.
