Federal funding announced to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from Cypress County

REDCLIFF, AB — The Redcliff Cypress Regional Waste Management Authority is in line for up to $1.4 million in federal funding to help reduce carbon dioxide and methane emissions.

A project at the facility will divert organic waste from a landfill with the help of a compost treatment facility.

This is expected to result in a cumulative reduction of about 77,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

That’s the same as removing about 23,600 cars off the road for an entire year.

Redcliff Cypress Regional Waste Management Authority is also contributing up to $2.5 million to support this project.

The federal funding comes from the Low Carbon Economy Fund, and was announced on the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste as designated by the United Nations.
