Local author Shannan Mondor hosting book reading, signing tonight

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Medicine Hat author who published her first book in March will answer questions and read from the book and sign copies tonight at the Cypress Club.

During the COVID-19 pandemic Shannan Mondor wrote How in the hell did I get here?, which details her struggles with trauma, substance abuse and addiction as well as personal issues that stemmed from those.

Since publishing, Mondor, who is also a consultant and Reiki teacher, says readers of the book have called her brave for sharing her vulnerability and praised the strength she’s shown.

She says people have also complimented her on her advocacy in promoting sobriety, a message she hopes comes through at tonight’s event

“What I want people to get from me speaking is for them to not continue to put alcohol on a pedestal, for people to realize that alcohol within our society is too normalized,” she says. “And so I’m going to point out different aspects of where it is normalized nad for people to really think every time when they pick up that alcoholic beverage.”

The reading, signing and Q and A goes from 7 to 9 p.m.
