Rattlers Roundup: Men’s golf team wins provincials

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s golf team are provincial champions.

The team won the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference title in Edmonton, firing a three-round total of 21-over par, 15 shots better than second place SAIT.

Two Rattlers also came home with individual medals. An even-par total was good enough for Chase Broderson to win silver, finishing four shots back of SAIT’s Brodie Shields-Tyler. The Rattlers’ Colby Friedrich took bronze at three-over and Jayden Dudas came fourth at 6-over.

The Rattlers women’s team took silver at 171-over par, edging out Concordia University by seven shots. SAIT took top spot at 103-over.

Libby Bourassa placed third in the individual competition at 47-over. Amaly Bartman tied for sixth at 124-over. Ella Gifford of SAIT won at 38-over.

Next up is Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association golf nationals in October.

The MHC Rattlers women’s soccer team played twice on the weekend. On Saturday they fell 14-1 to Red Deer Polytechnic, followed by a 1-0 loss to Augustana on Sunday. The men’s team dropped a 4-2 decision to Red Deer Polytechnic in its only game.

In basketball exhibition action, the men’s team dropped two games to Keyano College, 81-51 on Friday and 83-63 on Saturday. The women’s team also lost twice, 60-47 to Briercrest College and then 72-43 to Lakeland College.
