MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers opened their season at home against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, dumping their Highway 3 rivals 9-1 in a loud Co-op Place.

The Tigers’ fans brought it tonight, despite their home team going down 1-0 early on in the contest. Medicine Hat didn’t let that spoil their home opener though, answering with five first period goals of their own.

The trend continued into the second where the Tigers potted another three goals to take a 8-1. The Tigers added one more in the third to secure a 9-1 win.

Young star Gavin McKenna, the first overall pick in this summer’s bantam draft, had a four-assist night, and was named first star.

When asked what such a big night offensively means to him as a player McKenna said, “it’s a huge confidence boost” as well that the five games he will get in this year will be huge for his growth as a player.
