MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Big Marble Go Centre has seen a change in the way it receives its power in recent days.

The installation of a new generator system that cuts down on wasted energy has been completely installed and is in the process of becoming fully operational year-round.

Project manager/engineer for the City of Medicine Hat Daniel Barbour explained how exactly the system was decreasing its carbon footprint.

“The added efficiency comes from harvesting the heat generated from a motor instead of just bleeding it off into the air. Which this (system) can still do in an emergency situation,” he says.

“(The) heat is recovered then used to circulate then pre-heat the boiler loop in the building. So all of that heat goes into the pool or in the winter it goes into the air heating system”

The new generator is not meant just to be environmentally friendly, but also cuts costs for the facility.

Barbour says he hopes to see more of the systems be installed in Medicine Hat, and in surrounding communities.
