More nuclear potential study coming for area near Diefenbaker Lake: SaskPower
SaskPower has taken another small step toward the potential of nuclear power in Saskatchewan, announcing this week two sites picked for further study to possibly be home to a small modular reactor facility.
The Elbow area around Diefenbaker Lake in southwest Saskatchewan, and the Estevan area in the southeast near Boundary Dam, Rafferty Reservoir and Grant Devine Lake, were chosen.
SaskPower says that in the search across the province, the two areas rose to the top in terms of technical suitability and regulatory risk.
The company says it will start looking more closely at the areas to find more specific spots for where a facility or facilities could be located – with a final decision expected in 2024.
