Mental health first aid training taking place Sept. 22-23

COUNTY OF FORTY MILE, AB – The Forty Mile Regional Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is hosting a mental health first aid training course on Sept. 22 and 23.

The course will discuss topics about different mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and suicide prevention. The goal is for the community to become better prepared as a whole to handle such disorders.

The stigma surrounding mental health has been greater in the past, but executive director Corrina Roth-Beacome says that the old ideologies still exist.

“Sometimes we believe that there are no supports within our community itself, and that individuals whether it be children, youth, adults or seniors always have to travel out to find those supports. So this is why we try to offer this programming,” she says.

Roth-Beacome says anyone interested in attending who can’t make it can put their name on a list for a future course set for the spring.
