BROOKS, AB – The Habitat for Humanity team in Brooks had extra hands from JBS on site for a recent Build Day.

“With every minute that this team is contributing to this project, they are bringing two families – including nine children – one step closer to realizing their dream of affordable home ownership in Brooks,” says Carol Gil, chapter chair of Habitat for Humanity in Brooks, in a release. “The impact of this will be felt for generations.”

This duplex project will help two local families buy their first home with no down payment and no interest. Monthly payments will be geared toward each family’s income level to give parents the financial flexibility to build long-term stability for their children.

The ground was broken at the site in April, and the homes are expected to be complete by the end of this year.

In total, 16 JBS team members helped with the build of a pair of affordable homes for two Brooks families. JBS Foods Canada provided funding for the project through its Hometown Strong program, which helps meet immediate and longer-term needs in the community.

David Colwell, president of JBS Food Canada, says the partnership with Habitat for Humanity is his company’s first investment into the Brooks community through Hometown Strong. The JBS team members helped insulate the homes.

“We are excited to see our own team members’ work on the project and are grateful for the opportunity to give back to our neighbours in a meaningful way,” says David Colwell.
