Rattlers Report: Men’s soccer team earns a draw on home-opening weekend

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It was a Saturday to forget on the scoreboard for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers soccer teams, but both were able to bounce back with better results 24 hours later.

The men’s team dropped a 6-1 decision to the SAIT Trojans in Saturday’s home opener, with Igor Savic scoring the lone goal for the Rattlers. On Sunday the Rattlers earned one point, battling the Olds College Broncos to a 2-2 draw. The Rattlers had a 2-0 lead at the break on goals by Mizuki Ozawa and Felix Danquah.

The men’s record after three games is 0-1-2.

In women’s team action, SAIT handed the Rattlers a 10-0 defeat in their home opener. The next day Molly Morris scored the squad’s first goal of the season before the Olds College Broncos put three unanswered goals on the board to take a 3-1 victory.

The women’s record stands at 0-3-0.

Volleyball and basketball

The Rattlers volleyball teams were on the road this past weekend for exhibition games in Lloydminster and Olds.

In Lloydminster, the women’s team beat the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves and the Ambrose Lions 3-1. They were also on the other end of 3-1 results against the Kings University Eagles and the Lakeland Rustlers.

In Olds the men’s team beat the Providence Pilots 3-0 and fell to the Olds Broncos and the Ambrose Lions by the same score.

Jordan Biggar led the way with 26 points as the men’s basketball team dropped an exhibition contest 95-87 to Ambrose. The Rattlers women’s team also hosted Ambrose at the Snake Pit, losing 81-50.
