COUTTS, AB – More charges have been laid in connection to the blockade at the Coutts border in February 2022.

The Alberta RCMP says three more individuals have been charged as the investigation into the activities that occurred at the blockade continues.

Marco Van Huigenbos, 32, of Fort Macleod, Alex Van Herk, 53, of Fort Macleod, and Gerhard (George) Janzen, 43, of Taber have each been charged with mischief over $5,000.

Van Huigenbos is currently a member of Fort Macleod Town Council.

The RCMP says the charges stem from the three “being key participants of the Coutts border blockade that took place between Jan. 29 and Feb. 15, 2022.”

The three individuals have each been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Oct. 4.
