Free workshops on managing chronic pain upcoming

Another round of Better Choices, Better Health workshops designed to help participants manage their chronic pain will start later this month.

Alberta Health Services is offering the free, six-week self-management classes in-person in Medicine Hat and online through Zoom for anyone living anywhere in southern Alberta.

AHS says new sections have been added to this program including what is pain, mind-body connection, action plans and problem-solving, fatigue and getting a good night’s sleep, identifying values for pacing, worst-case thinking, moving easy program, healthy eating for pain and working with your health care team.

In-person workshops will run from 1-3:30 p.m. weekly on Wednesdays from Sept. 21 to Oct. 26. Classes will be held at the Medicine Hat Legion, 702 Second St SE.

Zoom workshops will run 1-3:30 p.m. weekly Tuesdays from Sept. 13 to Oct. 18.

The workshops are led by AHS health-care staff and volunteer leaders who live with long-term health conditions of their own.
