ATCO aims to restore power to Jasper today

ATCO Electricity says it expects power to be restored by late this evening in the township of Jasper after a large, out-of-control wildfire damaged multiple transmission structures.

It says generators are being used to gradually restore power in phases, starting with critical infrastructure.

ATCO says that once backup power has been restored to homes and businesses, it’s imperative that residents conserve electricity as generator power does not have the same reliability as the grid.

Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland says the Chetamon wildfire continues to burn and impact his community – describing the situation as a “large scale emergency.”
