MEDICINE HAT, AB – Vintage car owners and enthusiasts are racing to the Gas City campground this weekend to take in the vintage trailer rally.

More than 80 units will be on display at the campground and will showcase the personalities and creativity of their owners, from bright colours to unique shapes. Several campers have already set up shop for tomorrow’s festivities, and are excited to show off their prized possessions.

JJ Mccolm has been attending vintage car and trailer events for several years, and has even organized similar events up in Marwayne, Alta. Mccolm says these events have been a great way to reconnect with the car community.

“It’s like a family reunion,” Mccolm says. “It’s nice to see what people have done to their trailers. It’s just nice to meet up with old friends and have the opportunity to make new friends.”

Anyone who comes by the rally is free to ask questions to the owners, as well as take pictures of the trailers, which Mccolm says are both economical and family-friendly.

Mccolm has brought his vibrant orange ’73 bowler trailer with matching ’38 Chevrolet to the event, which is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

“It was initially set up to save on hotel costs as we went to car shows, and then as I got the trailer to look more and more like the car, it went from people walking right by the car to walking right to it,” says Mccolm. “The trailers draw a lot of attention, they’re fun; driving down the highway people think I’m a dentist, that’s all I can think of, ‘cause they all drive by and they show me their teeth.”

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 20, and Hatters can take in the display of vintage flare for free with a donation at the gate to the SPCA.
