Modest increase in student enrolment anticipated for fall semester at MHC

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Classes for the fall semester at Medicine Hat College begin on Sept. 2, and officials are busy making preparations in advance.

Sandy Henderson, the dean of student services and the registrar at the college, says they are expecting a modest increase in enrolment and are tracking towards pre-pandemic numbers.

The more competitive programs like nursing and social work are already full and enrolment has closed there.

However, there’s still a wide variety of available courses and Henderson says it’s not too late for prospective students to sign up.

“We do accept applications right up to Sept. 1,” says Henderson.

He adds that “if students are interested they can go on our website for links to our online application process or come in in-person, fill in an application form and maybe talk to an academic advisor and see what might be a good fit for them.”

Henderson says space is available in programs like business, bachelor of applied arts, arts and design, power engineering, health care aid and several university transfer programs.

Students will be able get a head start on things they might need on August 29 with an event they’re dubbing “Strike First,” when textbooks and campus tours will be available.

New student orientation is Sept. 1 and classes start the next day.
