MEDICINE HAT, AB – Homegrown produce and locally sourced livestock will take centre stage through a province-wide celebration of food.

Alberta on the Plate is a 10-day festival which runs in conjunction with Alberta Local Food Week, and showcases the local food economy here in the province. More than 100 restaurants and food vendors will be featuring a menu of locally sourced ingredients.

Four local establishments will be participating in the festival, which kicks off this Friday, Aug. 12 until Aug. 21.

One of the participating restaurants is Medicine Hat Brewing Co. The local brewery has cultivated a three-course dinner which sources ingredients from Medicine Hat and the surrounding area. The menu is set at a fixed price, which is set by Alberta on the Plate province-wide. The dinner will feature produce from Huber’s Farm Market, Taber corn from Johnson Fresh Farms, and meats from Benchmark Angus Beef and Premium Sausage.

Brennan Van Curen, head chef and owner, says this is the first year his brewery will participate in the event, and adds it’s important to bring awareness to what Medicine hat has to offer.

“A lot of these places are just little smaller outfits, so it’s really nice to help them out, showcase their ingredients, and also a lot of these local suppliers are really passionate about what they do, and they make really good quality ingredients to use,” Van Curen says.

More information on other establishments taking part can be found on the event’s website.
