Little change in week-to-week COVID-19 numbers in Alberta’s latest update

The weekly number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat and across the province is holding steady compared to last week.

The province released its weekly COVID update on Wednesday, which also shows the number of COVID patients in hospital and in ICU rising slightly.

In Medicine Hat, 20 new cases were identified between July 26 to Aug. 1, up from 19 in the previous period. There were no COVID deaths recorded in Medicine Hat, leaving the total at 100.

During the same period, there were 1,688 cases confirmed province-wide, down from 1,717 in the previous week and 13 COVID deaths. There are 702 COVID inpatients in Alberta hospitals, up from 649. Of the total number of inpatients, 28 of them are in ICU, up from 26.

Alberta has confirmed a total of 596,126 over the course of the pandemic and 4,673 deaths.

Among all Medicine Hat residents, 78.9 per cent have received one dose of vaccine, 75.5 per cent have received two doses and 36.8 per cent have received three doses.

Among Alberta’s total population, 81.6 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 77.5 per cent have received two doses 38.7 per cent have received three doses.
