City launching podcast, looking for host

Jul 29, 2022 | 11:38 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat is launching a podcast and is on the hunt for a host.

Expressions of interest are being accepted to host Public Matters, a podcast the city says is designed to engage the mayor, city council, and administration in informal discussions on matters of city interest.

“We’re excited to launch a pilot podcast to the community, and finding the right host is an important first step in producing a podcast that is both informative and entertaining,” said public relations advisor to mayor and council, Rachel St. Jean. “Many municipalities are engaging in podcasts as one more way to share information and connect with the community. We’re looking forward to seeing who might be interested in hosting this pilot series, as well as the community’s interest in a local government podcast.”

Familiarity with the city and its services, initiatives, programs and challenges, a conscientious approach to research; a respectful and thoughtful demeanor, and experience in facilitating meaningful discussion that explores a variety of points of views are some of the skills the host must possess.

The host will also be responsible for choosing topics, developing questions, and producing podcasts that are both informative and appealing to listeners, facilitating discussion and providing community perspective during each production.

The podcast is intended to support the city’s communication efforts, providing another avenue for residents to become informed about city council perspectives and decisions as well as city programs, initiatives and topics of interest.

Anyone interested in responding to the expression of interest can download the information package at medicinehat.bidsandtenders.ca. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 16.
