COVID numbers rising locally and across Alberta

Medicine Hat saw a near doubling in the number of confirmed COVID cases this week and the number of COVID inpatients is up by nearly 100 compared to the previous update.

The province released its weekly COVID update on Wednesday.

In Medicine Hat, 19 new cases were identified between July 19 and 25, up from 10 in the previous period. There were no COVID deaths recorded in Medicine Hat, leaving the total at 100.

During the same period, there were 1,717 cases confirmed province-wide, up from 1,691 in the previous week and 13 COVID deaths. There are 649 COVID inpatients in Alberta hospitals, up from 559. Of the total number of inpatients, 26 of them are in ICU, up from 23.

Alberta has confirmed a total of 594,474 over the course of the pandemic and 4,665 deaths.

Among all Medicine Hat residents, 78.9 per cent have received one dose of vaccine, 75.4 per cent have received two doses and 36.8 per cent have received three doses.

Among Alberta’s total population, 81.6 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 77.4 per cent have received two doses 38.6 per cent have received three doses.
