Dave Rozdeba Memorial Air Show takes off on Monday

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The annual Dave Rozdeba Memorial Airshow is taking off on Monday, July 25 hosted by Medicine Hat Family, Fun and Flight.

Everyone is invited to the airport to take in the displays, demonstrations and plane rides available at the airport.

HALO will onsite, along with the Canadian Forces Belfort 12 Griffin helicopter and a North American Harvard Trainer plane that flew in the Second World War.

Plane rides are being offered by Super T Aviation while space is available. Each ride can take three passengers and costs $30 per person. Sign up opens at the airshow at noon so people are encouraged to get there early to secure their spot.

“The airplane rides are usually a big hit,” says Robbie Watson, Medicine Hat Family Flight and Fun Chairman. “There’s usually a lineup of people getting signed up right away for those. There’s a lot of younger kids that have never been in a place before looking forward to going for a ride.”

Watson hopes being able to see planes up close and get in the air will inspire young kids to get into aviation.

“We really enjoy the kids that come out here,” says Watson. “There’s been a few that have come through the airplane rides and now they’re taking their licenses over at Super T.”

The airshow was started by Dave Rozdeba in 2009 and has continued since his death in 2017.

“He got a committee of people together and started the show with a small static display at the airport and it just kept growing,” Watson says. “It’s important in our community to keep it going for Dave and we all enjoy doing the airshow.”

Information on the airshow can be found on Medicine Hat Family, Fun and Flight’s website.
