The story of an Edmonton teenager missing for more than a week being found alive in Oregon earlier this month has child protection advocates again urging increased social media and digital education for parents, guardians and children. A 41-year-old Oregon man is in custody, facing charges of child luring, kidnapping and sex-related charges.
Medicine Hat Police Service is echoing the calls of advocates.
Acting Sgt. Brent Bohrn is one of MHPS’s school resource officers. He spoke with CHAT News to discuss how parents and guardians can take a larger role in their children’s online safety, what kids themselves can do and how officers are being proactive in educating about warning signs.
