Lethbridge gymnastics coach charged with sexually assaulting seven-year-old

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has apprehended a man who allegedly committed sexual assault against a minor.

On Tuesday, July 5, 2022, LPS received a report that a seven-year-old girl was sexually assaulted while attending a session at the Lethbridge Gymnastics Academy on the 3200 block of 32 Street North.

A further investigation by police determined that the child had been sexually assaulted by her coach during sessions between May and June 2022.

The 33-year-old male coach, Jamie Ellacott of Lethbridge, is charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Following a bail hearing on July 13, Ellacott was released from custody and must abide by several conditions including not having any contact with persons under the age of 16.

Police have notified the Alberta Gymnastics Federation, the governing body for gymnastics in Alberta.

At this time, no additional victims have been identified or come forward.

The investigation is ongoing. Police will not be providing any further information at this time.
