Full grandstands expected for Stampede rodeo

Jul 14, 2022 | 2:13 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The best cowboys and cowgirls from both sides of the border will be down in the dirt at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede in two weeks’ time.

“We have lots of NFR finalists that will be in our rodeo as well some of our own Canadian finalists,” says Stampede general manager Ron Edwards.

Bull riding, roping, barrel racing and the rest of the rodeo action have been the nucleus of the Stampede and a big draw stretching back to its earliest days.

Rodeo was one of the only events at last year’s Stampede and even with a full-blown event this year, Edwards expects to see full grandstands based on what he’s seeing just up the road.

“They’re in Calgary right now, those same competitors will be down here. The stock, Kesler stock, some of it was drawn up in Calgary, it’ll be here for all three days,” he says. “I mean rodeo is very, very strong and I believe Calgary’s doing great numbers and I don’t see any different here. I think we’ll be doing really well.”

The rodeo starts July 28 in the afternoon, goes under the evening lights on Friday and wraps up on Saturday.

Tickets are available on the Stampede website.
