Number of COVID inpatients decreasing province-wide

COVID hospitalizations are continuing to trend downward in Alberta even as the number of new confirmed cases rises.

The province released its weekly COVID update on Wednesday.

Between July 4 and 11, there were 1,361 cases confirmed province-wide, up from 1,164 in the previous week and 19 COVID deaths. There are 552 COVID inpatients in Alberta hospitals, down from 568. Of the total number of inpatients, 16 of them are in ICU, down from 21.

In Medicine Hat, there have been 19 new cases identified in the most recent reporting period, down from 22 in the previous period. There were no COVID deaths recorded in Medicine Hat in the past week and the total has been adjusted downward by one to 100.

Alberta has confirmed a total of 591,083 over the course of the pandemic and 4,632 deaths. The province-wide death total has also been adjusted downward from 4,636. The chief medical officer of health has previously explained that sometimes happens after further investigation takes place.

Among all Medicine Hat residents, 78.8 per cent have received one dose of vaccine, 75.4 per cent have received two doses and 36.7 per cent have received three doses.

Among Alberta’s total population, 81.5 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 77.4 per cent have received two doses 38.4 per cent have received three doses.
