Chad Fike takes second day money of the week on night 5 of Cowboys Rangeland Derby
It was a hot summer night in Calgary Tuesday as night 5 of the Cowboys Rangeland Derby was run under sunny skies.
It was a competitive night of racing, and when things shook out, it was Chad Fike, driving the Shaw GMC Chevrolet Buick outfit, who captured his second day money of the week after posting a time of 1:12.97.
Coming off of barrel position number 1 in the 7th heat, Fike won first place money on the night by just 7 one-hundredths of a second over Chance Bensmiller. Four-time champion Kurt Bensmiller grabbed third place, Day 1 winner Darcy Flad placed fourth, and Obrey Motowylo finished in fifth place on the night.
Wednesday night also saw changes atop the overall standings, with Layne MacGillivray now occupying top spot in the aggregate standings with a five run total time of 6:09.35. That gives him a slight 15 one hundredths of a second lead over Kurt Bensmiller, with reigning World Champion Obrey Motowylo now in third place overall.
