MEDICINE HAT, AB – Hill Pool will be closed Thursday and Friday and potentially over the weekend so crews can repair a water line break.

According to the City of Medicine Hat, crews need to break through concrete to reach and repair the leak. The city says it will share repair updates on social media.

Arrangements are being made to move or reschedule swimming lessons and anyone affected will be contacted directly.

Other swimming and spray park options in the city:

  • Strathcona Outdoor Pool at 1150 Fifth Street SE
  • Echo Dale Swim Lake at Echo Dale Regional Park off Holsom Road SW
  • Kinsmen Aquatic Centre (indoor) at the Big Marble Go Centre at 2000 Division Avenue N
  • Kiwanis Central Park at 900 Third Avenue SE
  • Ross Glen Water Park on Ross Glen Road SE
  • Saamis Rotary Park on Brentwood Lane SW
  • Strathcona Island Park off Fifth Street SE.

Visit the medicinehat.ca/swim for hours of operation and swim times.

The City of Medicine Hat thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crews make emergency repairs.

“We are hopeful that we can get it open to the public. We know that in a weekend in July it is never great to have a pool down. So we are working as quickly as we can . Staff from various city departments are working together to get that operational,” said James Will, director of parks and recreation.

As for the cause of the water main break, Will says the pool’s aging infrastructure may have contributed.

Hill Pool was constructed in the 1960’s.
