GoFundMe set up to help Redcliff man in hospital and his family

REDCLIFF, AB – A GoFundMe has been set up to help a Redcliff family reeling from a car accident last month.

James Dean was coming back from working in Texas when his motorcycle collided with a passenger vehicle on Highway 1.

Dean was transported to hospital in Calgary where he remains with broken bones, brain lesions and a torn spleen. Doctors expect it will be six months before he is discharged.

Family friend Stephanie Jeffrey has started the fundraising campaign to help his wife and family while he is recovering. She says it’s been exceptionally hard on them because he works out of town and had been gone since Christmas.

“It’s hard, they haven’t seen him in so long and now they’re sitting by him in a hospital bed,” says Jeffrey. “His wife’s been beside him every step of the way.”

Jeffrey says Dean’s wife, Amy, is staying in Calgary with his sister who has flown in from Nova Scotia. His kids are staying with his niece in Medicine Hat.

All funds donated go directly to the family to help cover the costs of Amy’s stay in Calgary, as well as daily bills.

“[Dean] worked in the States so all his money is held up in a U.S. account right now so they can’t even get to it,” Jeffrey says, adding Dean was the family’s primary earner.

Donations can be made through the GoFundMe and cash donations are being accepted at Who’s on 3rd in Redcliff.
