Pollievre marches beside soldier who spoke against vaccine mandates while in uniform

OTTAWA – Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre joined the final leg of a march led by a Canadian soldier known for speaking out against COVID-19 vaccine requirements.

James Topp was charged in February with two counts of conduct to the prejudice of good order and discipline for comments he made while wearing his uniform.

He has since been leading a four-month march to Ottawa from Vancouver, which has sparked promises and fears of a new wave of protests in the capital.

Many of his supporters were involved in the “Freedom Convoy” that snarled downtown Ottawa for weeks last winter.

Poilievre walked alongside Topp for about half an hour this morning, west of downtown Ottawa, where hundreds of people gathered to see the army reservist.

Video shows Poilievre expressing his opposition to vaccine mandates and citing a quote from John Diefenbaker about being a “free Canadian” when the former prime minister signed the Canadian Bill of Rights in 1960.

Poilievre also agreed with Topp that anyone who lost their job because of the vaccine mandates should be reinstated.
