First appearance for man charged in Brooks homicide

The man charged with second-degree murder in Brooks last week was to make his first court appearance on Monday.

Mat Bangoang Choap of Brooks was charged after police responded to a report of an unresponsive female in an apartment complex on Wednesday, June 22 just after 11:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found 30-year-old Tamara Debbie Soosay dead.

Choap did not appear, with the Crown and duty counsel explaining to the court that he is in hospital. They say he was found unconscious sometime following his arrest and was airlifted to Calgary.
