Women’s shelter golf tournament now accepting registrations

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Registration is now open for the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society Charity Golf Classic, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

This year’s tournament will take place on Aug. 31, at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club.

“Our golf tournament reaching a two-decade milestone is a testament to the commitment so many in our community have towards building a future where everyone is safe from violence and abuse,” said Nicole Pituley with Scotiabank Group, which has been the headline sponsor for the tournament since its inception.

Over the years the annual tournament has raised more than $500,000.

“Funds raised through the golf tournament have been vital for supporting the programming and services we provide to help keep those fleeing from family violence safe and rebuild their lives,” said women’s shelter executive director Natasha Carvalho.

Funds raised in 2022 will be directed towards the Summer Adventure Fun Educational (SAFE) program, a summer camp program for children and youth who have witnessed and/or experienced family violence, and whose families are connected to MHWSS services.

This year the tournament has partnered with Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by Altalink so every dollar raised through the golf tournament will be eligible to be matched up to 50 per cent.

Registration is $175 per golfer, or $700 for a team. The women’s shelter is also seeking community support through gold, silver, bronze and prize sponsorships.
