MEDICINE HAT, AB – An unexploded military ordnance found in the city on Tuesday has been disposed of, say police.

Medicine Hat Police Service officers were called to the area of 30th Street SW on Tuesday afternoon after a contractor working in the area unearthed the device. Police believed it to be inert and harmless but closed the road and evacuated nearby businesses as a precaution.

Members from Canadian Forces Base Suffield were called and police say they were able to dispose of the ordnance without incident.

Police thank members of the public and neighbouring businesses for their co-operation during the road closure and disruption.
