Medicine Hat taking part in ParticipACTION challenge

MEDICINE HAT, AB- It’s a battle of the fittest, the fittest community that is, and Medicine Hat is one of those cities across Canada that is vying to be known as Canada’s most active community.

The ParticipACTION Community Better challenge runs the month of June. After June 30, according to the ParticipACTION website, 50 finalist communities will be invited to submit an application explaining why they deserve to be Canada’s Most Active Community.

Participants are able to log the amount of time they are active on the ParticipACTON app, and the minutes will automatically count towards the city’s total score.

Right now Medicine Hat is ranked 13th in the province, behind Red Deer, Edmonton, Calgary and Lloydminister. Nationally Medicine Hat is ranked 97 th in the country, as of Friday afternoon.

CHAT News took to the streets this afternoon to find out how active people think Medicine Hat is.

“It’s moderately active. I guess. There’s lots of people biking around, and we have the scooters out now, so every one is out and about,” one person said.

“In general, I ride my bike every day to work, so I am fairly active, but when it comes to other people. I don’t really know. Medicine Hat seems to be relatively average I would say,” one person said.

” It is difficult to say to compare it with other places in Canada, that i have been. Overall it is more or less representative of the typically degenerate lifestyle of most people but I guess a lot of people here are in decent condition,” one person added.

The winner of Canada’s most active community wins $100,000. Last year North Grenville Ontario took the top spot. In 2019 , Enderby B.C. claimed the top prize.

There will also be prizes for the top community in each province.
