RCMP lay charges following auto theft with child in vehicle
Charges have been laid against a Calgary man after an infant that was in the back of a stolen vehicle that fled from police, was safely returned to their mother.
On June 4, 2022 at approximately 10:24 p.m., Strathmore RCMP received a complaint of a vehicle that had been stolen near the Travel Lodge in Strathmore, with a five-month-old child still inside.
Mounties say it was reported the occupants of the vehicle stopped for a break and were beside the vehicle when a male wearing a reflective vest jumped into the driver seat and sped away. One of the occupants was able to flag down a passing vehicle and followed while relaying information to RCMP dispatch.
With the information provided, responding Strathmore members were able to close in on the vehicle’s location while Calgary Police Service HAWCS helicopter moved into a position to monitor.
