NANTON, AB – Claresholm and Nanton RCMP have arrested and charged six youths following several incidents of bullying in Nanton.

On May 31, 2022, Claresholm RCMP responded to multiple complaints about a group of youths chasing and bullying a 13-year-old girl throughout the town of Nanton.

RCMP say further investigation revealed a long history of inappropriate behaviour against the victim by the group of teens, some of which had a criminal element.

Nanton RCMP Detachment Commander, Corporal Tom Nairn stated, “The investigation revealed a long history of inappropriate behaviour involving most or all of the persons charged. It is unfortunate that multiple past warnings were ignored and that the issue elevated to this level. The RCMP takes bullying and related criminal offences [seriously], and will continue to protect the community and victims from such.”

As a result of the investigation, RCMP arrested six youths on June 3, 2022. Five of the accused are 14 years old, and one is 15.

The youths face a total of 10 charges. All six youths have been charged with intimidation, three have also been charged with mischief, and one is facing an additional charge of uttering threats.

All six youths were released from custody to appear in Provincial Court in Fort Macleod on July 15, 2022.

RCMP continue to investigate the matter, and police are asking for the public’s help with any information related to the incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nanton RCMP at 403.646.5722 or Claresholm RCMP at 403.625.4445.
