MEDICINE HAT, AB – Two intersections along Allowance Avenue SE will be closed starting June, causing a zigzag of detours in the area.

The closure starts at the intersection of Ross Street and Allowance and goes to the intersection of Balmoral Street and Allowance.

According to the City of Medicine Hat, the closure is needed to upgrade water mains, sanitary sewer and storm infrastructure, work that is expected to take up to five weeks dependent on weather and unforeseen circumstances.

“Southbound motorists will detour off of Allowance Avenue SE onto Balmoral Street SE, south onto Woodman Avenue SE, and west onto Yuill Street SE to connect back to Allowance Avenue SE,” says the city. “Northbound traffic will zigzag west off Prince Street SE onto Princess Avenue SE, east on Balmoral Street SE, north on Ash Avenue SE, and west on Braemar Street SE, before connecting back onto Allowance Street SE.”

Sidewalks on Allowance Avenue will remain open for pedestrians.

Motorists are asked to obey all construction signage and reduced speed limits through the work area.
