DynaLIFE to take over lab services in Medicine Hat later this year

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The provincial government has signed a new contract for community and non-urgent hospital lab services in Alberta.

A new service agreement with Alberta Health Services, DynaLIFE, and Alberta Precision Laboratories was finalized on Wednesday and will take effect Dec. 5.

DynaLIFE was chosen following a competitive request for proposals process. The company has already been providing lab services in Edmonton, central Alberta and several northern Alberta communities for more than 25 years.

The company will operate patient service centres and mobile collection facilities in urban centres including Medicine Hat, Brooks, and Lethbridge. Currently about 65 per cent of provincial lab work-about 50 million tests per year are generated within the community.

President and CEO of DynaLIFE Medical Labs Jason Pincock says the company is excited to bring its world class testing facilities and patient-centered focus to new communities.

Alberta Precision Laboratories, a subsidiary of Alberta Health Services, will continue to provide lab services in small rural and remote communities, operate labs in acute care hospitals and offer specialized provincial testing.

DynaLIFE is taking on the existing group of staff already working in the labs and there will be no job losses.

The government estimates it save between $18 million to $36 million per year with this change.
