program to conclude at the end of July

City roadway resurfacing program begins May 30

May 29, 2022 | 9:54 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Hatters can expect a few delays on the roads as the city starts its annual road resurfacing program on Monday, May 30.

Construction will begin with repairing infrastructure adjacent to the roadways like catch basins, concrete curb and gutter, and sidewalks. The roads will be milled to remove the top levels of asphalt and repaved.

Each year, select roads are planned for resurfacing in the City’s capital budget based on the priority identified within a comprehensive asset management plan. This year, construction will occur at the following locations:

  • Parkview Drive NE from Altawana Drive NE to 12 Street NE
  • Altawana Drive NE between Parkview Drive NE and the Maple Avenue Bridge
  • Sage Road SE from Southridge Drive SE to Stratton Way SE
  • Strachan Road SE from 13 Avenue SE to Strachan Bay SE

Traffic will continue to flow in both directions though delays can be expected around the work sites. For the safety of staff and the general public, it is important that motorists obey all construction signage, flag personnel and temporary speed limits near the work zone.

The full roadway resurfacing program is expected to conclude by July 31. For more information on the work being done at these locations, you can visit the city of Medicine Hat’s website.
