May 27, 2022 | 10:36 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat will join with other municipalities that are giving athletes a local taste of the Southern Alberta Summer Games.

The City of Medicine Hat has partnered with the Southern Alberta Recreation Association and the local disc golf club to host a regional Disc Golf Tournament on July 16.

“Each year the City of Medicine Hat participates in the Southern Alberta Summer Games by sending anywhere from 150 to 700 athletes to different communities across southern Alberta,” says Kara Brake, special projects coordinator with the city, in a news release. “This tournament will still allow us to have athletes in Southern Alberta participate in a grassroots-style event.”

The tournament is broken down into three age categories and is open to anyone in southern Alberta, including residents and visitors from neighbouring towns and counties.

You can register for the event online before Tuesday, May 31.

Brake adds the tournament is a chance for the city to welcome families and athletes of all ages and abilities to the community for a fun day of competition.

The traditional Southern Alberta Summer Games were to be held in Raymond but have been postponed. The last time the games were held was 2019.

Cypress County is holding three different events in lieu of the regular Games
and the County of 40 Mile is doing cribbage and photography. Find a full schedule on the Southern Alberta Summer Games website.
