MEDICINE HAT, AB – Bars and restaurants are dusting off their outdoor tables and chairs for another spring and summer of patios.

The forecast is calling for sunny days and temperatures inching closer to 20 C on average over the next few days, and businesses are jumping at the chance to begin setting up.

Ashley Boles is the owner of The North Sports Bar & Grill and she says this will be the first year their patio will be fully constructed in time for the spring and summer months. The bar was unable to get a full patio running last year due to snowfall and pandemic guidelines. Boles says patrons are excited to finally enjoy a drink outside.

“I think we’re one of the only patios in Crescent Heights that I know of, so people are pretty excited to come outside and have a cocktail,” Boles says. “We have a new summer cocktail menu coming out May 1 and a new food menu as well, so it’s going to be pretty exciting.”

If businesses want to get in on the outdoor trend, details on the application process can be found on the city’s website.
