New mural painted downtown

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Downtown Medicine Hat has had more colour added to its streets.

A new mural had been painted on Third Street, catching the eye of passers-by and bringing more art to an already rich cultural scene.

Local artist Christina Carry was tasked with creating the mural for Casa Amigos Cantina. The mosaic-style mural was finished over the weekend. Carry’s work can also be seen on a few other murals in the downtown area.

Carry is excited at the prospect of seeing the downtown core become much more vibrant.

“Downtown when I was a lot younger, there wasn’t really much to it or anything to kind of, bring us down there,” Carry says. “I see that it’s growing so much now, and especially with Muralfest, and everything that everyone’s kind of putting on and adding to it, I’m just excited to see it expand.”

Carry says the reception from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.

“It’s been received very well,” Carry says. “I’ve had drivers going by giving me the thumbs-up, a lot of great conversations with people and compliments as I was working on it.”

Carry says Medicine Hat is getting more creative, and she is eager to see other local artists contribute their work to city streets.
