MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat College board of governors has a new chair as well as two new public members.

Following a provincial appointment, Sarah MacKenzie takes over as chair and David Hoekstra and Brian Stauth are the new public members.

According to a news release from the college, MacKenzie was first appointed to MHC’s board in 2019 as a public member and has served as interim chair since March 2021. She is the business manager at The Home Team | Royal LePage Community Realty and has served as president of the Medicine Hat and District Chamber of Commerce and interim chair at Invest Medicine Hat.

“I look forward to continuing the work that’s being done to support learners and our region. Our ongoing collaboration with stakeholders allows the college to remain responsive to workforce needs while aligning to provincial direction,” says MacKenzie.

She is also involved in the community through local events and organizations like MedHat Movember, Sunrise Rotary Club and the Medicine Hat Lacrosse Club.

The college says Hoekstra brings a strong background in agricultural to the board. He’s currently general manager of Big Marble Farms and director of the Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association. He’s previously held roles in provincial and federal governments, and has educational credentials in politics, history, economics, and leadership and applied public affairs.

Medicine Hat’s director of fire and emergency services, Stauth is a proven leader and lifelong learner, says the college. He has roots in agriculture and spent time as a small business owner prior to education and employment in emergency services and administration.
