Amplify Medicine Hat – Booster Juice

Apr 11, 2022 | 9:18 AM

Local business is the cornerstone of Medicine Hat, that’s why we’re asking you to Amplify Medicine Hat by nominating local businesses we can highlight and support.

Booster Juice was nominated for “always [saying] yes to supporting community events and teams within Medicine Hat.” To local franchise owners Derek and Erin Martin, who used to be coaches themselves, community is everything and “local sports is a passion for both of [them].”

When they were looking into becoming franchisees, Derek and Erin considered many options before choosing to be a part of Booster Juice. Ultimately, the opportunity to provide healthy alternatives for families and children in Medicine Hat (and as far as Fox Valley, Saskatchewan!) is something they strongly believe in and the fact that Booster Juice is an Alberta-founded franchise was a plus. After much consideration and a waiting period of seven years, they opened the Booster Juice in the Big Marble Go Centre (formerly the Family Leisure Centre) in 2016. Just four years later, they formally acquired the Dunmore Road location as well. More recently, they opened a Booster Juice kiosk in the Medicine Hat College.

The Booster Juice located along Dunmore Road is actually around twenty years old. It is “store #30” whereas the Big Marble Go Centre store is “store #454” for comparison.

Derek and Erin’s community support is not only limited to sports. There are families struggling in this community, so Booster Juice gets in touch with schools for their hot lunch programs to provide extra smoothies.

“It’s a healthy option for the kids,” Erin says, “Once they see a smoothie, kids’ faces light up.”

Their biggest community initiative, which runs throughout the year at the Dunmore Road location, is the “Hope for Kids” campaign. When you visit the Dunmore Road Booster Juice, you can opt to donate $20 to the Pediatrics Ward at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and you will receive a free smoothie. Derek describes the campaign as something “close to their hearts” because they are supporting families in difficult situations. The name “Hope for Kids” comes from the Hope Teddy Bears that the Medicine Hat Health Foundation has, which are given to children coming to the hospital.

Fundraising opportunities are always available through Booster Juice for schools or non-profit organizations. Derek and Erin are always looking for ways to continue to support their community and the surrounding areas.

Thanks for your nominations, and thanks to Booster Juice for helping us Amplify Medicine Hat. If you would like to nominate a business that has made a difference in our community, click here and tell us how they Amplify Medicine Hat!
